The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) was developed in the 1970’s by music therapist Dr. Helen Bonny and was inspired by Consciousness Raising, Client-Centered, Jungian and Transpersonal theories.
GIM is a gentle music-centered psychotherapy that uses sequences of classical music to stimulate imagery and journeys into different levels of consciousness. Exploration of deep inner states facilitates the integration of mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of well being for healing, transformation and growth.
In a session lasting up to 1.5 hours, you and your therapist discuss your current life situation, set goals for your work together, and establish a focus for the session. After a guided relaxation, you listen to music selected by the therapist to address the themes that arose. You verbalize the images including feelings, sensations, memories, and any awareness evoked by the music, allowing them to become a vehicle for exploring deep states of consciousness. Your therapist interacts verbally with you to help you develop and deepen your imagery experiences. At the close of the music, your therapist assists your return from the relaxed state, explores metaphors and reinforces your insights that arose during the exploration.

Grief due to the death of a loved one, a serious illness, divorce, job loss or other life change can be a difficult process to navigate alone. At times it can feel overwhelming and isolating. Connecting with a trained, caring and accepting professional can provide the companionship needed to help one find their way through the difficult journey of grief.
Drawing combined with other modalities or on it’s own allows people to express themselves non-verbally, to access unconscious symbols and metaphors, and to gain new insight and perspective about issues. Working with difficult emotions through art allows children to make friends with their worry dragons and other emotions, develop emotional literacy, learn how to tame their big feelings and improve parent-child communication.
Sandplay therapy is a nonverbal method that makes use of a sandbox and miniature figurines to create scenes that reflect a person's inner thoughts, struggles, and process. Since play and metaphor are a child’s language, their inner process can work more freely through play than through verbal communication.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT approaches are based on the premise that human emotions are connected to human needs, and therefore
if activated and worked through, can help people change problematic emotional states and interpersonal relationships.
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
IFS uses Family Systems theory—the idea that individuals cannot be fully understood in isolation from the family unit—to develop techniques and strategies to effectively address issues within a person’s internal family. This evidence-based approach assumes each individual possesses a variety of sub-personalities, or “parts,” and attempts to get to know each of these parts better to achieve healing.
Body-Centred Somatic Therapy
Body-oriented talk therapy helps clients to track their bodily sensations, become aware of their bodies, and to implement physcial actions that promote empowerment and competency.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
MBSR teaches mindfulness-based techniques to strengthen the mind and develop healthy stress management. It helps by developing mindfulness in every day life, increasing awareness of emotional triggers, developing emotional self -regulation, and increasing self-compassion.
