What is GIM?
The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery & Music (GIM) is a gentle music-centered transpersonal psychotherapy that uses sequences of classical music to stimulate imagery and journeys into different levels of consciousness. Exploration of deep inner states facilitates integration, healing, transformation, and growth. GIM has been effective with a wide range of people and issues.
Who can take this training?
Level I GIM training is designed for professionals with a background in music therapy, counselling, creative arts therapies, and related health care professions. A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is preferred although 3rd and 4th year Music Therapy students are welcome in this level of introductory training. The trainee must have experienced one GIM session from an approved GIM Level III Trainee or Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery prior to beginning this course.
What will happen in this training?
This training introduces students to the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) through demonstrations, theoretical discussion, and personal experiences. It includes instruction in the basic components and philosophy of the Bonny Method, the therapeutic role of music and imagery in GIM, demonstration and practice of relaxation techniques and basic guiding techniques; exploration of adaptations of this work, and the implementation of GIM in assessment. This course will satisfy the requirements for the Association for Music and Imagery Level I Training. Advanced training in GIM is necessary before a student is fully qualified to practice this therapy.

Date: February 1-6, 2025
Format: 6 Day In-Person Intensive
Location: Stanley Park Pavillion, Vancouver, BC
Cost: $950.00 plus additional practicum supervision costs.

Course Prerequisites
Completion of a Level I Training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music recognized by the Association for Music and Imagery, a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent level of professional training and experience in creative arts therapies, counseling, or other related health care field as approved by the Primary Trainer. Trainees must also have or be in the process of obtaining all necessary additional training to practice as credentialed mental health practitioners in their province or country. Trainees are required to have 1 GIM session from an approved Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery prior to beginning this course. An additional 3 sessions are required to be completed after the intensive course.
Course Description
The Level II GIM training provides opportunities to deepen the learning of all the aspects of the Introductory Level I Training. It includes didactic and experiential components; an introduction to three additional music programs; expanded relaxation and guiding techniques; adaptations of the Bonny Method for groups; and supervision of guiding skills. A practicum component of 10 practice sessions is required after the seminar. Advanced training in GIM is necessary before a student is fully qualified to practice this therapy.
